Colors
Each color is a unique recipe that has been researched, developed and mixed from scratch. Lab tested to ensure there is no leaching, they are durable, food safe and approriate for daily use.
Unlike some other glazes, we cannot mix a base glaze and simply add colorants. At 2300 Fahrenheit, almost all compounds break down into their individual elements and influence the sensitive chemistry. During cooling, those elements recombine into the glass-like structure of the glaze, while some come out to crystallize. We primarily use Silica, Sodium, Potassium, Alumina and Zinc but every recipe will have trace amounts of Iron, Magnesium, Calcium and other things found in top soil. The crystals are Willemite crystals, a Zinc-Silicate structure frequently found alongside Quartz in mines. The Zinc and Silica are added to the recipe as separate ingredients. The crystals assemble themselves atom by atom while the kiln is very hot. Held above 2000F, the crystal growing process takes around 10 hours for crystals of this size. Each item is also acid etched. Multiple long and complicated process must be brought together, but are worth the extra effort and costs.
Hazardous Materials like Lead, Cadmium, Uranium and Vanadium will never be used.
